Tim Yung wrires:
I understand that you may want to
have a pic of the famous unlicensed "Spectrum" LS3/5a for www.ls35a.com
Although I do not have a pic of the HK made LS3/5a with "Spectrum"
label, I am almost sure they were made by Radio People Ltd. (previously a distributor
and sole agent for Rogers/Spendor LS3/5a in HK) and the same as the b/w pic
I attached to this e-mail.
Story has it that Radio People Ltd. used parts they got from Rogers/Spendor
(as distributior for LS3/5a) to build lower price LS3/5a (as well as Spendor
BC-1) to sell to local studios who found real BBC endorsed LS3/5a too expensive.
Some are labeled as "Spectrum" and some have no label at all on it.
As even Radio People, as the distributor, do not have spare LS3/5a cabinet from
Rogers, they have to order their own and that is why these LS3/5a have "thin"
cabinet. And they are of the early 15 ohm version witht he so called "white
belly" B110.
So the story goes.
